Members Briefing from Mayor, the Hon.Len Brown

His Worship the Hon. Len Brown, Mayor of Auckland addressed Committee members on The Auckland Plan at a lunch hosted by Simon O'Connor, Managing Partner Auckland, at Ernst & Young on September 29th.

In his first briefing since February the Mayor acknowledged the crucial role of that the committee has played in establishing new governance structure for Auckland. He believes that the Committee can continue to play a vital role in the progress of the city and recognised the significant contribution that many Committee members are making to CCOs and community boards.

Len Brown identified three key platforms where the Committee's assistance can continue to add value to Auckland's progress. These are the Economic Development strategy, creating global presence for Auckland and assisting Council in delivering results from the Auckland Plan. The next briefing lunch with the Mayor will be held on January 31st and will be hosted by Mark Franklin from Stevenson's. Invitations will be issued prior to Christmas.

As at June 2010, the estimated population of the Auckland region was 1,461,900 persons.  This was an increase of 23,300 people (or 1.6 per cent) from the previous year.
