Councillor queries 'shoe box' apartments
Howick councillor Dick Quax has requested information under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, which he describes as "crucial evidence" in the ongoing debate about whether Auckland should be the 'quality compact city" as described by Mayor Len Brown.
He argues councillors need to see all the evidence, saying transparency and accountability are hugely important.
Quax says he doubts Aucklanders will be impressed if there seems to be some sort of "hiding of evidence".
He says he doesn't think "shoe box" apartment living, wall-to-wall townhouses and the denial of suburban living is a viable option for the city's future.
Quax says the council commissioned analysis is crucial in the debate about whether Auckland should be what Mayor Len Brown describes as a "quality compact city".
Quax says he is disappointed he has to use an act of Parliament to get information from his own council.
