Cultural Literacy
'Cultural Literacy -sparking the interest of Auckland's business leaders'
This project researches & debates the business case for increased cultural literacy in Auckland businesses
Cultural Literacy has run an extensive survey thanks to an early collaboration with AC Nielsen and several Auckland businesses have expressed interest in adopting the model.
Sharing Auckland's Stories
A childrens book: 'The Castle in Our Backyard' / 'Te Pa Kaha kei to tatou Iari' tells the history of Mount Maungakiekie as a family spend their day out exploring the mountain and sharing stories.
Available in both Maori and English the aim of the group in producing this children's book was to increase knowledge and interest in Auckland's heritage & within our community. The book is targeted at 6-11 year olds and is also a useful classroom resource for history, Māori studies, social studies, cultural diversity and language 1400 copies have been sold and the group are now actively exploring possibilities for new titles in the series.
The team has identified opportunities for further titles in the series and is actively looking to realise these. Skills for Auckland
Skills for Auckland was a pilot programme that provided mentoring to qaulified immigrants with a view to ensure appropriate employment for their skillset.
Mentoring by professionals in their area of expertise
Volunteers from Committee For Auckland member organisations acted as mentors to skilled migrants, assisting them with cultural and industry integration and contacts within their specific industries and professional groups.
These volunteers provided insight into the local industry, organisations and market conditions.
Mentors met with the participants on a regular basis.
In addition, structured training sessions provided additional help with CV writing, interviewing and communication skills.
Omega
The pilot was encorporated into "Opportunities for Migrants in Greater Auckland' (OMEGA) which is is a solution-oriented, collaborative initiative.
OMEGA programmes have provided 230 skilled immigrants with the opportunity to use their skills and expertise and integrated them into the New Zealand workplace.
