Auckland Anchors
The Committee's Auckland Anchors Group, chaired by Rick Ede, CEO Unitec comprises institutions representing 'sticky capital' i.e. important for Auckland, that cannot leave town.
The Anchor institutions are by function public, providing services that any major city requires. They are huge employers (over 31,000 FTE staff), contribute $2.6 billion a year in staff costs alone to the Auckland economy, cover over 2300 hectares in area, spend around $680 million in capital expenditure per annum and represent purchasing power in the region of $5.6 billion.
This makes them a formidable group of powerful economic entities, which have been and continue to be involved in the development of Auckland.
The group's current members are:
- Auckland International Airport
- Ports of Auckland
- University of Auckland
- AUT University
- Unitec
- Massey University
