Our mission

Established 2001

Independent, non-partisan, and completely focused on long-term progress

The Committee for Auckland brings together the private sector, academic minds, public institutions, and community leadership. As a completely independent, non-partisan civic platform, we are uniquely positioned to advocate for policy decisions that span decades, rather than political cycles.

Through research, targeted advocacy, and regular leadership forums, we address the systemic challenges facing Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland — from infrastructure deficits and housing quality to talent retention and environmental guardianship.

Convene

We bring together leaders from business, local iwi, government, and community groups to discuss challenges at a single, collaborative table.

Inform

We produce rigorous, objective research and baseline data reports to inform infrastructure, housing, and social investment decisions.

Advocate

We act as a strong, unified voice representing Auckland’s collective interests to central government and regional decision-makers.

Act

We design and support concrete regional action initiatives, directly converting research and consensus into on-the-ground reality.

A history of independent civic action

2001

Founding of the Committee

An independent, non-partisan, member-funded civic institution established by business, property, infrastructure, university, iwi, and professional leaders.

2010

The Auckland Super City Advocacy

Played a consultative and evidence-based role in recommending the unification of Auckland's local councils into a single, cohesive unitary authority.

2023

The State of the City Inaugural Benchmark

Released the inaugural State of the City benchmark with The Business of Cities, evaluating Auckland's economic, cultural, and liveability metrics against ten peer competitor cities.

2026

Launch of Whitiki Tauā framework

Launched Whitiki Tauā, Auckland's Action Agenda, uniting five focus areas — Global Gateway, Innovation & Talent, City Centre & Connections, City of Nature, and Homes, Neighbourhoods & Opportunity.
