Committee for Auckland members and guests gathered at Deloitte on Friday 18 September for a State of Auckland breakfast conversation with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, facilitated by Sarah Sinclair and Mark Thomas.

The discussion explored Auckland's role as New Zealand's economic engine and considered how business, government and civic leaders can work together more effectively to deliver long-term outcomes for the region.

Key themes included the importance of stronger alignment between central government, local government and industry, the need for a shared vision and coordinated delivery, and the role of the proposed Auckland Deal in supporting Auckland's future growth and development. Discussion also highlighted the value of long-term planning, infrastructure investment, public-private partnerships and effective leadership to drive economic growth and city-shaping outcomes.

The conversation touched on a range of issues important to Auckland's future, including education and innovation, economic development, capital markets, the visitor economy, city centre revitalisation, social cohesion, and opportunities arising from major infrastructure projects such as the City Rail Link.

The Auckland Action Agenda was referenced as a potential framework to support greater collaboration and alignment across sectors, helping connect strategy with delivery and investment priorities.
