The release of the 2026 State of the City report once again provided an evidence-based assessment of Auckland's performance relative to comparable cities around the world. The launch event was held at the University of Auckland and brought together leaders from business, government, academia, and the wider community.

This year's report brought together evidence and insights to support the five strategic focus areas of Auckland’s Action Agenda: Global Gateway and Primate City, Innovation and Talent, City Centre and New Connections, City of Nature, and Homes, Neighbourhoods and Opportunity. The report focused on the progress made to date and highlighted the opportunities Auckland can build on in the years ahead.

The report has established an important foundation for Committee for Auckland's ongoing work programme under Whītiki Tau – The Auckland Action Agenda and has helped inform conversations about how Auckland can collectively strengthen its position as New Zealand's leading economic and cultural centre.
