Future Auckland Leaders Alumni Profile | Ivan Bartley
Ivan Bartley reflects on how the Future Auckland Leaders programme helped shape his leadership journey, broaden his perspective and reinforce the value of collaboration in creating better outcomes for Auckland and future generations.

Participating in the Future Auckland Leaders programme was an important part of my leadership journey.
The greatest value for me came from connecting with people from diverse sectors and backgrounds, and gaining a broader understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing Auckland.
Today, I serve as General Manager, Ruakura and Development at Tainui Group Holdings, leading a team responsible for major property and infrastructure developments, including the continued growth of Ruakura Superhub.
One of the lasting lessons from the programme was the importance of collaboration and understanding different perspectives.
Throughout my career, I have found that the best outcomes are often achieved by bringing together people with diverse interests and working towards a common goal.
The programme reinforced the importance of thinking beyond immediate commercial outcomes and considering the long-term impact decisions can have on communities and future generations.
Those lessons continue to influence both my career and leadership approach today.
The relationships formed through the programme, together with exposure to a wide range of perspectives, continue to shape how I approach leadership, decision-making and community impact.
Future Auckland Leaders provides a unique opportunity to connect emerging leaders across sectors and build a greater understanding of Auckland's future opportunities and challenges.
